Swansea midfielder Leon Britton has issued a statement expressing disappointment his contract situation has been made public.

Last week, manager Paulo Sousa said the 27-year-old was yet to sign a new deal that would make him one of the best paid players in Swansea's history.

However, Britton, who is out of contract in the summer, said: "I am surprised and disappointed the nature of my contract talks have been made public. My advisor has been talking with the club since mid-September in what have been amicable and productive discussions."

He added: "At the last round of talks it was agreed all further discussions be postponed until the end of the season so I can focus on my performances for the club."

Britton has made 317 appearances for Swansea since joining from West Ham seven years ago.
