Roy Keane wants more competition at Ipswich

Ipswich manager Roy Keane wants his players to cause him a selection headache over the Christmas period.

A number of players at Portman Road are coming into form, making it all but impossible for Keane to leave them out of the team. Keane singled out Jon Stead, who has come into the side in recent weeks and scored a brilliant long-range goal against Blackpool, as an example and has urged the rest of his men to follow suit.

Keane said: "I think the players can pick the team themselves. Jon, for instance, has made it very difficult for me to leave him out, after scoring last week. Trust me, there's good competition for places here and that's very pleasing for a manager."

He added: "That's what I want all the players to do, especially now we're missing a few through suspension and others are coming back from injury."
