Leyton Orient will be without Scott McGleish and Sean Thornton when they host Southend.

Veteran striker McGleish will be sidelined after suffering a knee injury in a collision with Brighton goalkeeper Peter Brezovan during Saturday's goalless draw.

Midfielder Thornton serves a one-match ban after collecting his fifth yellow card of the season at the Withdean Stadium, so Jimmy Smith could be recalled.

Boss Geraint Williams will be hoping Ryan Jarvis can shake off the illness which sidelined him on Boxing Day in time to boost his attacking options.

Teenage winger Andros Townsend plays the final game of his loan spell from Tottenham, although he has stated he would be happy to extend his spell with the east Londoners.

Southend will be without goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall. The experienced stopper missed the Boxing Day defeat by Colchester with a back complaint and boss Steve Tilson has confirmed he will not be available.

Number two Ian Joyce made his first appearance of the season against United at Roots Hall and he will again be handed a chance.

Tilson was able to name Scott Malone in his side after they agreed to extend the loan deal of the Wolves defender and he will again be in the starting line-up.

Veteran striker Dougie Freedman is pushing for a recall in attack as the Shrimpers aim to end a run of five consecutive away defeats but Tilson knows it will not be easy.

"We now have a local derby, but they are all tough games and it will be no different there," he told the club's official website.
