Northampton made it five games unbeaten with a 2-0 win over promotion-chasing Bournemouth at Dean Court.

The Cherries started brightly in pursuit of a third consecutive win to close the gap on League Two leaders Rochdale, but Luke Guttridge gave Northampton the lead with a drilled finish past Shwan Jalal.

And Just 10 minutes later livewire midfielder Ryan Gilligan doubled the Cobblers lead, giving Jalal no chance with a thumping finish into the top corner from 18 yards out.

Not even the introduction of Cherries legend Steve Fletcher after just half an hour could turn the tide as Bournemouth looked worringly out of sorts, with defender Ryan Garry in particular looking off the pace against the physical threat of Adebayo Akinfenwa.

In-form striker Brett Pitman had the Cherries' best chances in the second half, but despite the backing of a vocal home crowd on a freezing afternoon, Bournemouth never really troubled Chris Dunn in the Northampton goal.
