What happened when Carlos Tevez tried to take a penalty away from Ronaldo vs Derby in 2007

After a summer of insane spending, the focus on Paris Saint-Germain has now switched to the aptly named 'penalty gate'.

In the club's 2-0 win over Lyon, South American superstars Neymar and Edinson Cavani engaged in a bit of a feud over who should take a penalty which was awarded in the second half.

The latter is the Parisians' designated spot kick taker after scoring 49 goals in all competitions last season, while the former is desperate to take control of all aspects of the team and match the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the end, Neymar was sent away by Cavani, with the Uruguayan actually seeing his penalty saved by Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

THE FEUD CONTINUES

That's where the feud should have ended, but it didn't. Rumours of fights almost breaking out in the dressing room and Cavani storming out of the stadium have dominated the headlines ever since.

And, when everyone thought the issue had gone away, it resurfaced on Monday morning, with news that the two forwards are still virtually at each others throats, with Cavani reportedly rejecting €1m from PSG's president to hand over the penalty duties to Neymar.

Madness, absolute madess. Of course, it is not the first time two players have argued over penalty duties.

In fact, it is quite common, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez a prime example back in 2007 while playing for Manchester United versus Derby County.

However, the way they dealt with the issue just further highlights how ridiculous PSG's current situation is.

Tevez asked to take it to complete his hat trick, Ronaldo - the designated taker - simply said no and that was pretty much the end of it.

Even after the game, Sir Alex Ferguson played down any accusations of a rift between his two strikers.

"Carlos Tevez is making a great contribution this season," the manager said, per Daily Mail.

"Cristiano is our regular penalty-taker so I can understand why he wanted to take it but it would have been great for Carlos if he had scored a hat-trick."

Cavani and Neymar could certainly learn a thing or two and realise that their internal rivalry is simply damaging the image of the club they represent.
