We now know who will be the next challengers for the Universal Titles.

As seen at Sunday’s WWE No Mercy pay-per-view event in Los Angeles, CA at the Staples Center on the WWE Network, Brock Lesnar successfully retained his WWE Universal Championship against Braun Strowman in the match. This means that Strowman probably isn’t getting a rematch anytime soon.

Unless you have been out of the loop as of late, Lesnar is expected to be taken off of television soon. His last PPV bout of this year is expected to be at No Mercy. This means that WWE will be without Lesnar for the next few months.

He is not scheduled for the TLC pay-per-view that takes place in his hometown of Minnesota on October 22, 2017, at the Target Center. Keep in mind that historically, the main event on a TLC PPV is traditionally a TLC match for the WWE/Universal Championship. Obviously, with Lesnar not working the event, the title won’t be on the card.

Lesnar won the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33 earlier this year in Orlando, Florida by beating Goldberg. He is reportedly set for a one-year run with the title, despite his part-time status. What’s interesting is that Lesnar has been more active than he was during his previous title run. Lesnar is also not working the Survivor Series PPV event in November.

Dave Meltzer noted the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns still seems to be the plan for Wrestlemania 34 as it has been the long-term plan and has been rumored since around Wrestlemania 33. The longtime professional wrestling report noted that there were two guys that were rumored for singles matches against Brock earlier in the year. That would be Finn Balor and Seth Rollins.

Meltzer would go on to speculate that Balor could be the next opponent for Lesnar when he returns, which will likely be in January for the Royal Rumble PPV, due to Rollins currently being paired with Dean Ambrose as the Raw Tag Team Champions. Rollins is expected to challenge for the title before WrestleMania 34 takes place next year in New Orleans, Louisiana.
