One of the biggest dream matches that WWE fans have always wanted to see is John Cena vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania.

The Undertaker has been widely regarded as one of the most respected locker room leaders in the history of WWE. While he has accomplished a lot during his time in the squared circle, nearly nobody has accomplished as much as "The Leader Of The Cenation" John Cena. Cena is a 16-time World Champion who has been the face of the promotions for quite some time. While Cena and Taker were at the peaks of their careers, they were primarily kept on separate brands and didn't really meet inside the ring against one another very ofter.

For the longest time WWE fans wondered what would happen if Taker and Cena met inside the squared circle on the grandest stage of them all at WrestleMania, but sadly that match never came go fruition.

After suffering the first two and only losses in his WrestleMania career to the likes of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, "The Dead Man's" in-ring career seems to have come to an end. With Cena's time in the main event scene also coming to an end, it seems as though we'll never see the two veterans lock horns at WrestleMania after all.

Cena recently did an interview on the E&C'd Pod Of Awesomeness show to discuss the fantasy match-up, and explained why it never happened (quotes via IWNerd):

“We have to do the best for WrestleMania, period. That event is completely [essential to] the fiscal future of the company and every single year, there were plans to do the right thing for WrestleMania and that match was not in the plans.

"And that’s the best I can say. So many guys complain about not being in the last match, or a main event match, or with a certain partner. Man, if it was only work with people you’re comfortable with, I would’ve had another 10,000 matches with [Edge].

"Like that’s the easy part. The difficult part as a professional is to take what they need you to do and make it creative

“In a perfect world, would I want to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania? That’s every pro wrestler’s dream! That’s any WWE Superstar’s dream, to work pretty much the maestro of WrestleMania at WrestleMania.

"That’s it! But if our company’s success depends on me doing something else, then my job is to do that something else. And I think the way all that went, I don’t have any regrets on the way any of that went.

"I think it was completely put together the right way. Would I have loved to do it? Yes! But I show up to work to do work.”
