The next major event on the WWE calendar may be November's Survivor Series PPV, but eyes have already began looking ahead to 2018.

The first PPV of next year will be the Royal Rumble and as always, the night will through up some great opportunities and shocks.

A new tradition?

The marquee match of the event is always the 30 man Royal Rumble in which each superstar will battle for the right to headline WrestleMania.

However as big as the event will be already, Dave Meltzer has claimed that the WWE is discussing the idea of another annual tradition starting at the 2018 event.

Ever since Charlotte and Sasha Banks broke ground in the first ever Women's Hell in a Cell match last year, fans have wondered about versions of other popular matches being made for the female superstars.

This year saw the crowning for the first ever Ms Money in the Bank and according to Meltzer, he has heard rumours of a female Royal Rumble match too.

Reported via RingsideNews, Meltzer claimed on Monday's instalment of Wrestling Observer Radio that he has heard rumours of WWE considering a 15 woman version of the annual tradition.

While Meltzer couldn't confirm that the plans will be going ahead when the Royal Rumble arrives in January, Meltzer claimed that there are talks of executing it.

The belief amongst the entire WWE Universe is that the company finally has enough top level female talent to now have a women's Royal Rumble.

Across Smackdown Live and RAW, There is a lot of top level female talent but the fans would surely be more interested to see if any names from NXT would also make an appearance.

Big plans already forming

The 2018 Royal Rumble is already starting to come together and with plans set to see Roman Reigns take on Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, it will be interesting to see if Reigns is entered in the Royal Rumble.

The last time the Rumble was held in Philadelphia, Reigns won the main event and sparked fan outrage before he was eventually booed the entire way out of the arena.

It would be a bold move to see him win the match in Philadelphia once again but with the WWE, shocks can come in many different forms.
