Arsenal are set to offer £9 million for West Ham striker Carlton Cole, according to reports in The Sun.

The Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in another striker in January with Robin van Persie looking likely to miss most of the season with an ankle injury.

Cole has been in impressive form for West Ham this season scoring seven goals in 13 Premier League appearances and is thought to have caught the eye of Wenger.

Arsene Wenger said in his press conference ahead of the match with Bolton tonight: "There is no way we can carry on with only one striker.

“Bendtner is being treated now and will come back on Friday for tests. If he is out for another two months, we will need to buy someone, absolutely.

“There is a 50-50 chance we'll sign somebody. Even if Bendtner is OK we will look around and if we find a good bargain we will still do it."

Despite manager Gianfranco Zola desperate to hold onto his key striker West Ham may be forced to sell Cole to ease their financial problems.
