Rochdale manager Keith Hill has rejected reports that defender Craig Dawson could join Championship side Scunthorpe in a £250,000 deal.
The 19-year-old has been linked with a switch to Glanford Park in the January transfer window after a pulsating first half to the campaign. Hill is determined to hang on to the promising centre-half and believes that if Dawson does leave Spotland it will be for a bigger club than the Iron.
He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "I think it is just a bit of mischief-making to be honest. I am taking my coaching badge with Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins and speak with him regularly."
He added: "I know Scunthorpe have been a good stepping stone for young players, but with all due respect to them, Craig is a better player than Scunthorpe United. If he does make a move from here it will be to a higher club."
Dawson only made his debut for Dale at the start of the season, but he has gone on to score nine goals in 28 appearances for the current League Two leaders.
