Tottenham Hotspur are back in the hunt to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso.
The Portuguese defensive midfielder has been on the radar at White Hart Lane for some time, but fresh reports suggest Spurs sent scouts to watch the player on Sunday in the Portuguese cup.
Veloso scored a screamer for Lisbon in the victory over Braga, and the scouts will have gone back to north London with a glowing reference on the 23-year-old.
Defensive midfielder Veloso has eight international caps for Portugal, scoring once for his country in the 4-0 World Cup qualifying victory against Malta.
Arsenal, Barcelona and Fiorentina have all been linked with the Estádio José Alvalade star in the past, but now The Times reports that Spurs are ready to make their intentions clear in this month's transfer window.
Redknapp had previously been linked with Sandro, another defensive midfielder from Internacional in Brazil. However, his attentions have switched to a player with proven european pedigree at a competitive side in Liga Sagres.
The Spurs boss is eager to add some competition alongside Tom Huddlestone and Wilson Palacios, although exits would be expected before another player is drafted in at the Lane. This could lead to the long-awaited exit of Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.
