Josh Norman is arguably the best defensive player in the National Football League (NFL) today, but unfortunately for the Washington Redskins, they'll be without his services for the foreseeable future.

The fifth round pick of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Coastal Carolina was drafted by the Carolina Panthers and signed to a four-year, $2.3 million contract. He immediately made an impression on his coaches, fellow players, and pretty much anyone else who saw him put in work on the gridiron. He had his real breakout year in 2014 when he finished ranked 4th amongst starting NFL cornerbacks. Norman racked up 11 passes defensed and two interceptions that year.

He could follow that up with a 19 passes defensed season, along with four interceptions and two touchdowns. In 2016 after failing to come to an agreement with the Carolina Panthers on a contract extension, Norman signed with the Washington Redskins for a five-year, $75 million deal.

Norman didn't disappoint in his first year with the team, racking up another 19 passes defensed season along with three interceptions but no touchdowns. Last night (Mon. October 2, 2017) the Redskins went head-to-head with the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in what was an epic primetime encounter.

When it was all said and done, it was Kansas City who would emerge victorious, and if a loss for the Redskins wasn't enough, it was revealed that Norman suffered a fractured rib in the game. He exited play right before halftime while helping in on a tackle against Chiefs' receiver Chris Conley.

Per a report from NFL.com, the Redskins are also concerned that Norman may have suffered an internal injury and are particularly concerned with a possible lung issue.

"That's the first time that's ever happened to where I couldn't get out there," Norman said, via ESPN. "I just have to take my time and have faith.

"I wanted to go out there, but do I more help the team or hurt the team if I can't really run and breathe hard?"

No timeline for Norman's return has been offered at this time.

What are your thoughts on Norman being out with an injury to his rib? Will the Redskins' defense sorely miss its top defensive player? Or will they be fine without him for the time being? Let us know your thoughts on the situation in the comments section below!
