Leo Messi and the Argentina national team are in serious danger of missing out on next summer's World Cup in Russia. They are currently 6th in FIFA's South American qualifying group and have only one match remaining - away at Ecuador on Tuesday night. The top four from the group qualify automatically whilst the 5th placed team will enter a two-legged play-off match.Messi has won 30 trophies during his time at Barcelona but has incredibly failed to win any silverware with the national team. The 30-year-old five-time Ballon d'Or winner has reached four major finals with Argentina but has tasted failure on every occasion so far.If Messi and his teammates can't get their act together, they may not even be at the 2018 World Cup.The last time Argentina failed to qualify for a World Cup was all the way back in 1970.Barcelona's little genius is Argentina's captain as well as the all-time record goalscorer, recently surpassing Gabriel Batistuta's goal haul of 56.

14 second video says it all

A video shared on Twitter has gone viral, highlighting why Messi is struggling to lead Argentina to the World Cup.

He's been in incredible form in La Liga, scoring 11 goals in the opening seven fixtures of the 2017/18 season.

The video may only be 14 seconds long but perfectly shows why he's struggling with the national team.

Messi was arguably the best player on the pitch as 'La Albiceleste' faltered to a 0-0 draw at home to Peru on Thursday night.

"You can't ask him [Messi] for more," said coach Jorge Sampaoli. "Leo gave us intensity, he pressed, he looked for the ball, he had chances, created chances, did things from impossible positions... We had a very intense Messi.

"I am convinced, if we are as we were today, I have no doubt that we will go to the World Cup."

Argentina have scored just once in their last four World Cup qualifiers and will need Messi to find his scoring boots in Ecuador.

Ecuador won the fixture 2-0 when the two sides last met but have nothing to play for, having lost each of their last five qualifiers.
