A packed crowd at the Diamond Court in Beijing witnessed another masterclass performance from world number one Rafael Nadal, who added another title to his name this year following two Grand Slam wins in French Open and the recently concluded US Open.

On Sunday he took on Australian sensation Nick Kyrgios, who had hit an impressive spell of form during his first appearance at the China Open, deservedly reaching the final.

However, the 16-time Grand Slam champion was on a different pedestal compared to the Aussie and clinched the title with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Although, with Kyrgios in the mix, there is bound to be drama and this tie was no exception.

The theatrics started from the opening game itself after Kyrgios was wrongly judged for a line call which garnered pretty expressive reactions from the world number 20.

He imploded instantly and was seen scolding the chair umpire on a number of occasions, resulting in him picking up a penalty point towards the end of the first set.

Kyrgios beat Nadal the last time they met in Cincinnati Masters in August, but the inconsistency of the controversial star this time helped the Spanish ace storm his way to victory.

Speaking during the post-match presentation, Nadal had some friendly advice for his counterpart.

He told Kyrgios to maintain the aggressive nature of his play and eventually he’ll find many successes in the upcoming years.

“Congratulations to Nick for a great week. Just a month ago you best met in Cincinnati. You’re doing great," Nadal said, as per The Express.

“Just keep going and playing that way. Of course you will have a lot of success in this sport.

“You have a great future, so just keep going. That’s the same for your team.

“Well done and all the best for the future.”

Nadal recalled the first time he won the competition in 2005 and admitted he didn’t envision himself playing at the venue 12 years later.

“In 2005 when I won here I never thought that in 2017 I would still be playing tennis! I’m very happy to be here and to win the title,” he continued.

“For me this is a very important victory. It’s great to have a team like this behind me during a great season.”

Kyrgios congratulated Nadal on the win, saying: “Firstly I want to congratulate Rafa. He’s had an extraordinary couple of months, with the US Open was unbelievable. I enjoyed watching every moment.

“It’s great to see him back in top form and World No 1 is a great credit to his team as well.

“It’s been an amazing week for me. My first time in Beijing and to make the final is pretty good. I’ve played some great tennis but it wasn’t to be today. Rafa played unbelievably. He’s one of the greatest of all time.

“A great week. I’m enjoying it. I’ll be back.”

The duo will now leave for the Shanghai Masters event, which was already underway during the final in China.

The victory on Sunday was Nadal’s 75th career title and his 12th straight win this term.
