Paul Merson has always been a controversial figure. The former England midfielder has never been shy to share his opinion, no matter how galling or unbelievable it is and, considering the platform on which he has to share it (Sky) he quite often garners quite a substantial reaction from the public.Merson is well known for the inaccuracy with which regularly predicts Premier League outcomes and also stating the blindingly obvious. It sometimes hard to believe that Merson is actually paid to say the things that he does, but maybe that's the whole point, people want to listen, not because he has a habit of making a good point, but because he has a habit of making an absolute gaff. With this in mind, his latest comments regarding Harry Redknapp, Arsenal, and Arsene Wenger were bound to spark some debate."People say he's a wheeler-dealer and it's so disrespectful," said Merson, speaking of Redknapp."Tactically, he's one of the best I've worked with. If Arsene Wenger had Harry Redknapp's tactical nous, Arsenal would win the league."Naturally, Merson's comments sent Twitter into meltdown as the ever-reliable people of Twitter tore into the pundit as it became clear that some thought his opinions to be total poppycock.

Twitter has a point. Redknapp was only last month sacked by Birmingham City with the Blues struggling at the wrong end of the Championship table and since his Tottenham days has hardly covered himself in glory.

A three-year stint at Queens Park Rangers could hardly be classed as successful, after relegation to the championship after just two years in charge. That was followed by immediate promotion, but Rangers would later slip back through the relegation trap door.

Merson did play under both managers though, so maybe he knows a thing or two.

But then again, maybe not.
