The heel turn by Sami Zayn at the recent Hell in a Cell event certainly shocked the WWE Universe, as the former NXT Champion was seen as someone who would remain a face throughout his career.

It's easy to see why too, as his quirkiness and charm was relatable and was the perfect recipe to continually have the fans behind him on his journey to the top, while his Sami for Syria campaign further showed how nice of an individual he is.

HEEL TURN

That all changed on-screen when he helped Kevin Owens defeat SmackDown LIVE commissioner Shane McMahon, and revealed his motivation earlier this week.

Now, Zayn is a heel and fans are excited to see what this change can do for his career and it's a breath of fresh air on the blue brand.

However, the idea was brought up six months ago to Triple H, and he wasn't too fond of the suggestion.

X-Pac recently discussed the heel turn on his podcast, X-Pac, 1, 2, 360, and revealed that he originally sent a text message to The Cerebral Assassin about turning Zayn heel, but the idea was completely shut down.

According to Pop Culture, X-Pac said: "Crazy thing. It might have been 6 months ago, maybe not long ago...I was like, they aren't doing much with Sami Zayn.

"It's a crying shame because he's one of the best talents they [WWE] has. So, I got my phone, texted Hunter: you should turn Sami Zayn heel.

"You would not believe how he crapped on that idea. I mean, he thought I was a complete moron for suggesting that."

You can probably say that only a small hint was given to a character change when SmackDown LIVE general manager Daniel Bryan voiced his frustration with Zayn on Twitter since his move to the Tuesday night show during the superstar shake-up, something Zayn reacted to.

Clearly, the former D-Generation X member was onto something half a year ago when dropping the suggestion, but you can understand why The Game or anyone in WWE would be wary of pulling the trigger on such a big move.

Now, Zayn is reportedly in line to team up with Owens to battle Shane and AJ Styles at Survivor Series, so hopefully, this heel turn could be the start of something big for Zayn - as he clearly deserves it.
