Baptiste commits to Tangerines

Blackpool defender Alex Baptiste has signed a new contract that will keep him at Bloomfield Road until June 2013.

Baptiste was out of contract in the summer and although the Seasiders had a further 12-month option, they were keen to tie him down on a long-term deal.

The 23-year-old said: "I'm very pleased, I had a good chat with the gaffer (Ian Holloway) and Tommo (Steve Thompson) and the direction of the club is upwards and I want to be a part of it."

He added: "If someone would have said I would be signing a new contract when I first signed, I would have thought you were mad.

"There are some quality players in the squad and I am delighted with the way things have gone, I always give 100% and I am delighted to have signed a new deal."
