Torquay are boosted by the arrival of on-loan teenage Tottenham player Sam Cox ahead of their home League Two game against Burton Albion.
The 19-year-old can play in defence or midfield and teams up with a Torquay squad looking to turn around a three-match losing spell.
United boss Paul Buckle also includes new Irish midfielder Eunan O'Kane in his home squad for the first time.
Northern Ireland Under 21 international O'Kane made a brief substitute appearance - his Football League debut - in United's 1-0 defeat at Chesterfield last Saturday.
O'Kane has yet to play at Plainmoor as he only joined Torquay from Coleraine a week ago.
Torquay won 2-0 at Burton on Tuesday August 18.
Goalkeeping coach Kevin Poole will bridge a four-year gap and make his full league debut for Burton.
Poole, who last started a league game for Derby in November 2005, became the oldest current Football League player on Tuesday night when first-choice keeper Artur Krysiak was sent off in injury time in the 3-1 defeat at Port Vale.
Krysiak must serve a one-match ban and could be one of 11 players unavailable to manager Paul Peschisolido.
Across the defence, skipper Guy Branston serves the second game of his two-match suspension, while Ryan Austin (knee), Darren Stride (groin and hamstring), Richard Jackson (groin) and Aaron Webster (ankle) are all injured.
Midfielders Michael Simpson (broken foot), Marc Goodfellow (back) and Jimmy Phillips (back) have been joined on the treatment table by leading scorer Greg Pearson (hamstring) and fellow striker Steve Kabba (dead leg).
Of those 11 players, only Goodfellow is given much of a chance of making the squad, although Webster will be monitored in training.
