Hamburg have entered the race to sign former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Stoke City have all been interested in signing the Real Madrid striker but may have to beat German giants Hamburg if they are to land the 33-year-old this January.
The Dutch star has struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot at Madrid and is now looking for a move away from the club in order to secure a place in Holland’s World Cup finals squad.
Hamburg chief Bruno Labbadia has said: "We have the desire to sign one more striker, but we are just going out to do so if such a deal makes sense.
"I am not a fan of winter deals, many of those players need too much time to settle. Though, it needs to be a player who does not take that long to feel home."
There has been much debate as to whether van Nistelrooy still has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League but teammate and former Hamburg player, Rafael van der Vaart, insists van Nistelrooy is still world-class.
"It's a fact that Ruud still belongs to the very best strikers in the European game, there should not be any doubt about this," Van der Vaart told Bild.
"He is a world-class hit-man."
