The Shield will make their long anticipated return to the ring this SUnday at the TLC PPV - the same PPV they made their WWE debut in.

The odds are stacked against the Hounds of Justice though as they had been set to compete in a four on three TLC match.

Made things worse

That idea would have seen Cesaro, Sheamus, Miz and Braun Strowman combine to take on the returning faction.

Sunday's main event however was changed drastically on Monday's episode of RAW following the return of a WWE legend.

The show started with the Shield coming to the ring in their trademark fashion - making their way through the fans.

Once again the group would stress an air of confidence, despite the fact that they were already outnumbered.

Ever the opportunist, Miz would later seize on the opportunity and claim that he will be bringing in a fifth member to their team.

RAW General Manager Kurt Angle opposed this idea however, but did give them the chance to earn their fifth team mate.

Deciding that it would all hinge on the main event match which would see Roman Reigns battle Braun Strowman inside a steel cage, a win for Reigns would remove Strowman from Sunday's match, while a win for the monster Among Men would add a fifth member to their team.

It was Strowman who would have his hand raised inside the cell but it was certainly without it's controversy.

Despite all being banned from the ringside area, Sheamus, Cesaro, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose would all make an appearance.

It was the re-emergence of one superstar however who decided the fate of Roman Reigns as Kane made his RAW return.

It has been a long time since Kane appeared in WWE so his return came as somewhat of a shock to the fans in attendance.

Despite their desires to see Curtis Axel take part in the main event on Sunday, the Axman looks set to be going down a different road following the events of Monday night.

Pulling away?

Axel was incredibly excited at the chance of being the fifth member of their team to battle the Shield.

When his would be team mates told him to confront Roman Reigns, he would end up trying to take on the entire Shield at once.

That didn't work out well for him and as he lay on the ground backstage, the Miz would compound his misery by revealing that he was never their fifth man.

Possibly hinting that Axel could be set to pull away from his Miztourage duties, Monday's events have set up what should be an interesting main event for Sunday night.
