Zinedine Zidane had a huge decision to make in the summer over his first-choice centre-forward.Alvaro Morata was unhappy with the amount of time he was spending on the substitutes’ bench and wanted to be promoted to the club’s number one striker ahead of Karim Benzema.Morata had scored more goals for Madrid in fewer appearances last season but, despite that, Zidane opted to stick with Benzema and the Spaniard subsequently left the Bernabeu for Chelsea.Only time would tell whether or not Zidane made the right decision; however, a couple of months down the line and it’s hard not to feel like the Madrid head coach has made a big mistake.Morata, who is five years younger than 29-year-old Benzema, has scored seven goals in nine appearances for Chelsea so far this season and has made people at Stamford Bridge forget all about Diego Costa.Benzema, on the other hand, had scored just two goals in seven appearances before this evening’s Champions League clash against Tottenham. He had chances to improve his tally against Spurs but wasted a couple of gilt-edged opportunities, including a header from inside the six-yard box which forced a wonderful save from Hugo Lloris.Would Morata have buried that chance? You can bet the Madridistas inside the Bernabeu were asking themselves that very question.
