Walsall have an injury concern over captain Mark Hughes for the home clash against Norwich.

The defender sustained an ankle problem in the Saddlers 2-1 defeat by Brighton last time out and, although he has since been given the all-clear, he missed most of training last week and is rated as doubtful for the clash.

On-loan Manchester City defender Clayton McDonald is on standby to deputise alongside Manny Smith in midfield should Hughes fail to make it.

Boss Chris Hutchings will also check on striker Steve Jones, who has been struggling with a niggling groin problem, but Rhys Weston will come back into the frame following his recovery from a calf injury.

Walsall will be looking to end their winless streak of four league games.

New League One leaders Norwich will be without talismanic captain Grant Holt.

Holt was sent-off for a reckless challenge during the 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday and begins a three-match ban as the twice-postponed clash with Saddlers gets the go ahead.

The former Nottingham Forest man has scored 23 goals during an outstanding debut season with the Canaries but saw strike partner Chris Martin`s 16th of the campaign send Paul Lambert`s side top at the weekend.

Lambert will choose between Oli Johnson and Cody McDonald to partner Martin against the Saddlers, while Anthony McNamee - yet to make his debut since signing from Swindon - is another attacking option.

Right-back Russell Martin picked up a hip injury on Saturday and is a doubt so Zak Whitbread may make his first start for the club but Michael Spillane (hamstring) and Jens Berthel Askou (broken metatarsal) are still out.
