If reports are to be believed, Mesut Ozil wants to follow in Robin van Persie’s footsteps and swap Arsenal for Manchester United.

Van Persie angered Gooners when he moved to Old Trafford for £24 million with just one year remaining on his contract at the Emirates back in 2012.

If Arsenal fans weren’t mad enough, the Dutchman then led the Red Devils to the Premier League title in his debut season, picking up the Golden Boot in the process.

And despite scoring 132 goals during his time in north London, Van Persie is largely despised by Arsenal fans.

But Ozil doesn’t seem to care too much about that.

According to the Mirror, the German has told his teammates that he will join United at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Wow.

As much as they would hate it, Arsenal would be powerless to stop it due to Ozil being out of contract.

Arsenal's plan

But before it gets to that stage, Arsenal will do all they can to stop Ozil from signing for their rivals.

That’s because, according to the Daily Mail, they will try their best to find a buyer in the January transfer window.

The midfielder would be able to negotiate a pre-contract with any European club outside the Premier League with the likes of Inter Milan interested in the World Cup winner.

And Arsenal will try to persuade Ozil to accept any offer that comes his way this winter in an attempt to stop him from moving to United.

However, there’s a real chance that he will turn down any approaches this January and hold out for the move to United in the summer.

Of course, it’s all well and good Ozil deciding he wants to move to the Theatre of Dreams but whether or not Mourinho makes a move for him remains to be seen.
