Olivier Giroud doesn’t score bad goals, does he?The Frenchman has now scored three goals in 2017 alone that could all be Puskas Award contenders, the latest coming in the Europa League against Red Star Belgrade last night. It followed his phenomenal scorpion kick against Crystal Palace in January and his volley for France against Sweden in June.Giroud scored the winner as the Gunners scraped a 1-0 win in Serbia to make it three wins out of three in Europe. The 31-year-old netted a fine bicycle kick in the 85th minute - although Arsenal fans were much more interested about Jack Wilshere’s involvement in the goal.
Giroud: I got lucky
It wouldn’t be surprising to learn that Giroud spends hours on the training ground practicing scoring from awkward positions, although last night’s goal came simply because there wasn’t a teammate in sight.
“In that position I can control the ball and try to play with another team-mate,” the striker admitted afterwards, per Goal.
“But I didn’t see anyone so I tried to take it, a little bit like [the goal against] Palace.
“I was a little bit lucky because it was top corner, back of the net.”
Walcott produced a poor display
It was Theo Walcott who provided the assist for Giroud but it didn’t take much away from the Englishman’s performance.
Walcott was pretty terrible. He fluffed his lines in a couple of good positions and was caught offside following a promising move.
It’s safe to say the 28-year-old, who is yet to start a Premier League game this season, will probably find himself on the bench when travel to Everton on Sunday.
Walcott was trolled after Giroud tweet
Football fans can be cruel at times but Walcott set himself up to be trolled with his latest tweet.
He posted a photo of himself alongside Giroud, asking his 1.69 million Twitter followers whether his teammate has a better beard.
After last night’s performance, it’s not just in the facial hair department where Giroud ranks above Walcott.
Surely the former Southampton man must have expected the ridicule that would soon come his way? Check out the best responses below.
Better get back on the training ground, Theo.
