Djimi Traore will always hold a special place in the hearts of Liverpool supporters. The former Mali defender played for the Reds between 1999 and 2006, winning a few major honours along the way.During his seven years at Anfield, Traore won the League Cup, the FA Cup and, most famously, the UEFA Champions League.Traore played the entire 120 minutes against AC Milan in Istanbul back in 2005, playing at left-back behind John Arne Riise.Torn apart during the opening 45 minutes by a rampant Milan side containing superstars such as Kaka, Andriy Shevchenko and Andrea Pirlo, Traore and his teammates stood firm for the remainder of the match and secured their place in Liverpool folklore as a result. The Mali international wasn’t the most talented defender Liverpool have ever had on their books - in fact, he’s often singled out as one of the worst players ever to win the Champions League - but he still ended his career in 2014 with more silverware to his name than most other professional footballers.

Traore reacts to Klopp's defence v Tottenham

Traore, like other former Liverpool players, watched in horror as Jurgen Klopp’s side were dismantled by Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds found themselves 2-0 down after 12 minutes but, unlike in Istanbul 12 years ago, there was no dramatic comeback on this occasion.

Klopp brought the hapless Dejan Lovren off after 30 minutes but Liverpool still went on to concede two more goals before full-time.

Midway through the first half, Traore dropped a truth-bomb about Klopp’s current defence on Twitter - and Liverpool fans, needless to say, found it hilarious.

Yep, you know things are bad when even Djimi Traore’s having a pop at your defence for being a shambles.

“No way you can win trophy with that defense #TOTLIV,” Traore tweeted, “come on @LFC wake up”.

You tell ‘em, Djimi.
