There's a big name backstage for tonight's (Mon. October 23, 2017) episode of Monday Night RAW, and it could be laying out the foundation for a huge match-up at Survivor Series next month.

Last night the WWE wrapped up its Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view (PPV) event which gave fans a sneak preview of what to expect at Survivor Series. Due to a mumps outbreak in the WWE locker room that affected Bray Wyatt, SmackDown Live star AJ Styles was called upon to come in and take on "The Demon King" Finn Balor in place of Wyatt.

In a RAW vs. SmackDown-esk match-up, Styles and Balor put on an epic bout that had Match Of The Year written all over it. The WWE has already been advertising Survivor Series as a Brand vs. Brand type of deal, and tonight's special guest on RAW could confirm that in a big way.

Per a report from PWInsider, SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon is backstage at RAW tonight just a day before he has been advertised to make his WWE TV return. McMahon was last seen at Hell In A Cell earlier this month where he suffered a loss to Kevin Owens inside the steel structure.

The report also noted that several other SmackDown Live stars were backstage at the show as well, however, no specific names were given. A RAW vs. SmackDown Live men's match is expected to be announced tonight on the show.

It is also expected that Universal Champion Brock Lesnar will be answering WWE Champion Jinder Mahal's challenge for the event. Last night AJ Styles also expressed his intention to rematch Balor soon, meaning that match could be made as soon as tonight as well given it's a possibility Styles is backstage at RAW.

The Survivor Series PPV is shaping up to be a rather interesting event, and just how good the card will turn out to be starts tonight with match announcements.
