There's been plenty of positive noise recently about Tiger Woods' potential return to professional golf as he recovers from the spinal fusion surgery he underwent six months ago.

Much of this has been fuelled by the 14-time major championship winner's weekly social media updates. Woods has treated golf fans with regular video updates hitting different swings as he charts his rapid progress toward a hopeful full recovery.

His most recent upload on Monday showed a slow-motion shot captioned: 'Return of the Stinger' which you can see by scrolling down below.

However, the post has attracted more attention for the cheeky comments Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler left on it.

Woods' former President's Cup teammates added to that hype by trolling their former assistant captain, as per the Golf Channel.

Thomas wrote: "Was the slow mo necessary through the club twirl TW?" while Fowler added: "@justinthomas34 looks like he toed it a bit?"

It's all in good fun though and Thomas, Fowler and Woods are all neighbours in South Florida.

The trio have been partaking in chipping and putting contests as of late, as well as sharing each other's company at Tiger's restaurant The Woods, in the town of Jupiter in South Florida.

It isn't yet clear exactly when Woods will be ready to return to competitive golf. But it is certainly nice to see other top golfers rally around him with some gentle ribbing.

Most golf fans will just be excited to see one of the sport's greats getting closer and closer to a comeback.

Woods has been troubled by injuries since early 2014. During that period, he has fallen from being ranked world number one to current ranking of 1171.

The procedure Woods underwent in April at the Texas Back Institute was his fourth back surgery to date and the typical recovery time for a spinal fusion is six to twelve months.
