United rival Madrid for Spanish starlet

Manchester United are set to rival Real Madrid for Spanish wonderkid Sergio Canales, according to The People.

Reports have claimed that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will travel to Spain to meet with Canales and his father in an to attempt to thrash out a deal.

Feguson wants to add another attacking midfielder to his ranks with the likes of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes coming to the end of their careers.

Canales has been in sensational form for Santander and has attracted interest from Premier League giants Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City although Manchester United look favourites to sign the 18-year-old.

Canales current contract is due to expire at the end of the season but the young talent must now decide whether to stay in Spain or opt for a move to the Premier League.

The attacking midfielder has featured nine times for Racing Santander this season scoring five goals.
