St Ledger gutted to miss out on Celtic

Preston defender Sean St Ledger has expressed his disappointment at being denied the opportunity to join Scottish giants Celtic.

The Republic of Ireland defender was the subject of at least one bid by the Parkhead club last month but the move never materialised.

The centre-half said: "Everyone who plays for Ireland always has a link with Celtic - I'm Catholic as well. It would have been massive for me had I had the opportunity, but I didn't. 

"The club didn't accept the bid but it would have been nice if [Preston chairman Derek Shaw] had returned my calls."
