As a Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher is a prime target for abuse from Everton fans. However, Carragher is abused even more for the fact he used to support the Toffees, and actually grew up an avid fan of the club.Speaking in 2008, the former Liverpool defender said: "I was a total Everton fanatic right through my childhood and teens."Everton controlled my life and dominated my thoughts 24/7. I went to the away games, followed them across Europe and in the mid-80s went to Wembley so often it began to feel like Alton Towers."When I talk about that Everton team I still say 'we'. Even when I was playing for Liverpool reserves I'd want Everton's first team to win the derby every time."But, as Carragher became more and more involved with the Liverpool first team, his love for Everton soon turned to hatred, and Blues fans reciprocated that hatred for him.

THE BANNER

Everton were in action in the Europa League last night, but another disappointing result away to Lyon saw them knocked out of Europe.

The Merseyside club eventually lost 3-0, but the biggest talking point of the game was perhaps a banner spotted in the away end.

The Everton official Twitter account simply posted a picture of the travelling away fans and thanked them for their support, but one eagle-eyed fan managed to spot a rather peculiar banner in the picture.

In what was an abusive message directed at Jamie Carragher, the banner read: 'Carragher stinks of piss'.

Charming.

JAMIE CARRAGHER'S RESPONSE

The Everton fan tagged Carragher alerting him to the banner, and he was successful in getting the 39-year-old's attention.

But, instead of being angry at the banner, Carragher saw the funny side.

Alluding to his boyhood craze for the club, the Bootle born defender replied: 'As a kid I used to dream about my name being on a banner in the Everton end!!!!!' - with the five exclamation marks emphasising his sarcastic enthusiasm to the banner.

Quality. His reply has since gone viral, having amassed over 2,000 re-tweets and 10,000 likes.

Everton fans 0-1 Jamie Carragher.
