Many thought WWE's superstar shake-up earlier this year would be the perfect opportunity for Rusev to reach his potential.

Despite being a heel throughout his career, Rusev has displayed great versatility with his character as he's acted as the evil foreigner who steamrolled through the opposition, and has also shown just how hilarious he can be with his witty one-liners.

FACE TURN

So, it comes as no surprise that despite being a villain on paper, The Bulgarian Brute receives plenty of praise from WWE fans and always receives a great reaction. Now, speculation is suggesting that he could finally be turning face.

WWE has had several opportunities to get the best out of the former NXT star. A place in the Money in the Bank ladder match could have made a difference, while the plans to face Shane McMahon were suddenly stopped in its tracks and never discussed again.

Instead, Rusev has had to watch former partner Jinder Mahal quickly rise through the ranks to become the WWE Champion. If rumours are to be believed, though, then WWE could pull the trigger on a double turn which will see Rusev turn face, and Tye Dillinger turn heel.

This comes after both Rusev and Dillinger executed a double turn at a recent house show in Raleigh, North Carolina. The important thing to note is that the test was a success as Rusev received plenty of cheers - even when he won by locking in The Accolade - while Dillinger was booed and received sarcastic '10' chants.

DOUBLE TURN?

Most of Dillinger's success in WWE has come because of his gimmick and how the WWE Universe has been behind him. So, it could prove slightly difficult to see how he would transition into a heel role, especially since most of his gimmick relies on fan support and reaction.

Dillinger also hasn't had a tremendous amount of success on SmackDown LIVE since moving up from NXT, so it could either prove to be a stroke of genius or another mistake.

If WWE is wanting to pull off a heel turn, Dillinger probably wouldn't be the first name fans think of, as it's clear that somebody like Randy Orton is itching to become a villain again.

Whatever happens, it'll be interesting to see how Rusev is portrayed on-screen in the coming weeks with these rumours circulating.
