Before this weekend, you’d probably never heard of Robin Zentner.

Even now, you might be thinking: ‘Who on earth is he?’

Well, if you watch the below video, you’ll soon realise who we’re talking about…

Yes, we’re talking about the Mainz goalkeeper who had a complete brain fart and totally forgot how to play football.

Luckily for Zentner, he didn’t concede a goal during his moment of madness as his defence came to his rescue.

But what was he doing!?

How can he possibly explain what he was playing at?

Zentner explains his big mistake

Well, he was always going to be asked about it after the match and actually explained how it happened.

“The ball was passed back to me with a bit of backspin. In the corner of my eye I could see something white and I thought it was the ball,” he said.

“But it was the penalty spot and the ball was somewhere else. I went to play a pass into the centre to Jean Gbamin, but I didn’t make contact with the ball and then realised it wasn’t even there.”

So, he thought the penalty spot was the ball?

Maybe he should have a quick look down next time just to make sure.

While he certainly didn’t see the funny side of it, his teammates did.

In the above video, the Mainz substitutes can be seen laughing and joking with Zentner shortly after the embarrassing moment. The 23-year-old ‘keeper didn’t seem to appreciate the humour though and didn’t even raise a smile.

Lighten up, mate. It could have been worse, you could have conceded a goal from it!
