Eden Hazard produced some of the best football of his career so far during Jose Mourinho’s second spell as Chelsea manager. The Belgium international won the Premier League Player of the Year award for the 2014-15 campaign - while Mourinho picked up the Manager of the Year accolade - after a magnificent season with the Blues, who were crowned champions. However, the relationship between Hazard and Mourinho deteriorated during the following season. In fairness, Mourinho’s relationship deteriorated with most of his players, but Hazard’s form that season fell off a cliff. In October 2015, Mourinho even dropped Hazard and told reporters it was because the Belgian wasn’t working hard enough from a defensive point of view."I left Hazard out because we are conceding lots of goals,” the Portuguese coach told reporters, per the Evening Standard. “We need to defend better. We need our midfield players to be just worried about the central area of the pitch, not to be worried about compensating for the left side or the right side.”Hazard’s form failed to recover, and neither did his relationship with Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea two months later.Has their relationship improved since then?Well, judging by what happened before kick-off today, possibly not.
