Antonio Conte made the brave decision to drop David Luiz for Andreas Christensen against Manchester United on Sunday and luckily for him, it paid off.

Christensen had a stormer at Stamford Bridge and stopped Romelu Lukaku from having any kind of impact on the game.

Meanwhile, Luiz was watching in the stands, having not even made the bench.

Chelsea ended up winning 1-0 thanks to Alvaro Morata's 55th-minute header and speaking after the game, Conte suggested Luiz might not have a future at the Bridge.

When asked if Luiz will stay at Chelsea, the Italian said: "I don't know. He has to work really hard, otherwise they are on the bench or in the stands.

"It's very simple, no? Very simple. The coach has to make the best decision for the team and tonight the best decision for the team was to play with Christensen."

Conte also insisted that what happened to Luiz could happen to any of his players: "This can happen to every one of my players if I see that they are not in good form.

"It's normal. I repeat, I have to put my face in every situation, and then to make important decisions."

Luiz being dropped was the result of his performance against AS Roma last week and a heated exchange with Conte in training the following day, which saw the Brazilian banished.

He then trained with Chelsea's youngsters on Saturday and had to sit in the stands while his teammates beat United.

Conte has had a lot to say about the incident, whereas Luiz is yet to comment, but the Times claim to know how the Brazil international reacted to being criticised and dropped.

Luiz reportedly thinks his and Conte's argument was a misunderstanding and that he has been unfairly singled out by the Italian manager.

Every Chelsea player was poor against Roma and Luiz clearly feels the blame should have been shared, rather than piled onto him.

What the future holds for the centre-back remains to be seen, but Conte did explain that it could still all change for him.

"Maybe in the future I can decide a different way or continue in this way," Conte added. "That’s normal. I must take the best decision for the club, not for a single player.

"It's only a tactical decision, but it can change, it can change."
