Perhaps the biggest heavyweight fight that can be made in boxing right now is a bout between undefeated knockout artists Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
Wilder is undefeated in his professional boxing career, having racked up a record of 39-0, finishing all but one of those fights via knockout. He currently reigns as the WBC heavyweight champion of the world and is looking to solidify himself as the best heavyweight fighter in the world by defeating Anthony Joshua.
Joshua is currently undefeated in his boxing career as well, as the Olympic gold medalist has won 20-straight fights via knockout. He is currently the IBF, WBA (Super), and IBO heavyweight champion, and could face the biggest test of his career if he meets Wilder inside the squared circle.
With both Joshua and Wilder coming off of wins in their last outings, the time to make the mega-heavyweight fight between the pair has never been more perfect. Wilder has really been gunning for this fight for quite some time, and knows UK fans want to see the bout as well.
In a recent interview Wilder claimed that UK fans should throw lettuce and spit on Joshua until he agrees to take the fight (quotes via Boxing Scene):
“Oh, most definitely,” Wilder said. “They should do them like they did Jesus. They should throw lettuce and spit on ‘em. It’s about that time. That’s what the world wanna see.
"I think it’s a lot of fans in the UK wanna see it. But I think it’s a lot of fans that don’t wanna see it because they know what I bring.
"They know what I’m capable of doing. And, you know, they’ve got a great thing going over there. So, you know, they want to continue doing what they’re doing as long as they can.
“But the thing about it is, it all has to come to an end at some point in time. He can only fight so many people. He shares the same division as I.
"And as you can see, it’s a very small division. So our paths must cross at some point in time. And I’m saying, why wait? Let’s make it now. Why wait? Who else can he fight? I know they’ve got a lot of England guys, just like I’ve got a lot of American guys.
"But really, people wanna see the best fight the best. I wanna prove that I’m the best, so I wanna fight the best. So if Anthony’s the best, if Parker’s the best, put ‘em up to the test.”
