Chesterfield withstood a second-half barrage to boost their promotion chances with a 2-1 win at Port Vale.
Aaron Downes and Dominic Green put the Spireites in control before Craig Davies pulled a goal back for Vale.
Chesterfield took just 10 minutes to open the scoring as Robert Page's effort hit the crossbar and Downes was on hand to hammer the rebound beyond Chris Martin in the Vale goal.
Green doubled the Spireites` advantage after 31 minutes when his driving run from midfield ended with a 20-yard shot that took a deflection to wrong-foot Martin.
The hosts pushed forward in an attempt to reduce the deficit but Chesterfield goalkeeper Tommy Lee produced two fine saves to deny Vale captain Tommy Fraser.
Vale deservedly pulled a goal back within four minutes of the restart when Davies fired in a low shot from 12 yards, but the Brighton loanee then wasted four chances to level the scores as Chesterfield held on.
