Things just haven't gone to plan for Jack Wilshere, have they?

The Englishman burst onto the scene as a raw youngster for Arsenal in 2011 and looked set to be the future main man in the Three Lions' midfield.

Sadly, injuries have taken their toll, restricting him to just 105 appearances for the Gunners and only 34 for the England senior team.

In 2016/17, he was shipped out on loan to Bournemouth where he seemed to acquire some much-needed match fitness, however, he sadly broke his leg in the latter stages of the season.

A summer of recuperation followed and he is now in the final stages of his recovery, with a spot in Arsenal's midfield his primary goal.

WILL WENGER DITCH XHAKA?

A lot of his England hopes depend on Arsene Wenger dropping Granit Xhaka and allowing Wilshere to take his role in midfield.

Regular first-team football is what Gareth Southgate has demanded for him to be called up, which may not occur in north London.

As such, one club from south of the Thames river is interested in giving Wilshere the platform with which to stake his claim for an England World Cup spot; Crystal Palace.

According to the Telegraph, Roy Hodgson - who was instrumental in taking the Arsenal man to Euro 2016 - is desperate to help him rediscover his best form.

The likes of West Ham, Swansea and Real Betis have all been linked, but a short-term move to a London-based club with a manger who has faith in him would be good way to go for Wilshere.

WILSHERE TALKS ABOUT HIS ENGLAND SNUB

"I want to be playing for my country. I am a proud Englishman," he said. "But it is down to the manager [Southgate]. He didn't select me.

"He said I need more football. That is what I have got to do.

"I have got to take it on board, try to get into the Arsenal first team and hopefully I'll be selected. I have just come back to full fitness. I am happy with where I am, playing-wise. I am trying to get into the Premier League team.

"At the moment I am concentrating on the now. The future will take care of itself. All I have got to do is stay fit and play my football. I want to stay at this club — I have said that many times."
