The main event of UFC 218 on December 2 has been changed after Frankie Edgar announced he's had to pull out of the pay-per-view next month due to injury. The former UFC Lightweight Champion was supposed to have a fight against UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway. However, on Wednesday, he announced he wouldn't be able to compete due to an undisclosed injury. This leaves the door open for another fighter to step in, and another potential challenger to Holloway and his Featherweight title. As expected, he hasn't been short of possible candidates to be his opponent in the main event of UFC 218.Some of the lesser names to throw their hat in the ring for a fight against Blessed, not necessarily for the title, include Cub Swanson and Ricardo Limas, who are ranked fourth and third respectively in UFC's Featherweight division. However, a former UFC Featherweight Champion has also included their name as a potential opponent at UFC 218 if the promotion wants to make it happen, and it will certainly be a fight that many fans would like to see.Former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo has requested to be Edgar's replacement at UFC 218 next month, saying in a tweet directed at UFC and Holloway: "Hey @BlessedMMA, I want my title back. I deserve the rematch. Let’s make this happen @ufc"

The Brazilian was the fighter who the American defeated back at UFC 212 in June earlier this year to become the unified UFC Featherweight Championship. Blessed won the fight in the third round via TKO (punches) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but Aldo is yet to have a rematch for the title.

Aldo is scheduled to face Lamas on December 16 at UFC on Fox: Lawler vs. dos Anjos but UFC could pull him out of this fight in order to make sure UFC 218 has an unmissable main event.

From the way which Holloway reacted to Edgar's injury, he might just be up for accepting a challenge from Aldo, as he said in a statement on Twitter: "Detroit, you guys are a bunch of tough mfers. I met many of you last month when we visited. You guys deserve the best fight card of the year and youre still gonna get it. I'm fighting no matter what.

"Santa is still coming early to Detroit, so get ready. Malice in the palace part 2 if we have to. I'll see you soon.

"Injuries are part of this fight game. Frankies the man. Wish him a speedy recovery."

Will Holloway vs Aldo 2 take place at UFC 218? We'll just have to wait and see.
