Philippe Coutinho was arguably involved in the biggest transfer saga of the summer as Barcelona saw multiple bids in excess of £100 million rejected by Liverpool.

The Merseyside club were simply not willing to let go of their star player, and that decision has been rewarded thus far when you consider some of Coutinho's performances.

The 25-year-old has been used more as a number eight this season, allowing him to get on the ball more and supply the front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Coutinho hasn't played for Liverpool since the 4-1 defeat by Tottenham, and what he is set to do next is sure to anger Jurgen Klopp.

How Coutinho is set to anger Klopp

The Brazilian, currently away with his national team, is ready to risk the wrath of his club manager by declaring himself fit to face England on Tuesday.

The Three Lions host Brazil in a friendly, but Coutinho missed Liverpool's wins over Huddersfield, Maribor and West Ham due to a thigh injury.

The decision will not impress Klopp, given the unnecessary risk the 25-year-old may take, and also because the Reds weren't happy when the midfielder decided to link up with his country.

Going into the international break, per The Mirror, Coutinho required treatment on his injury but opted to continue his rehabilitation whilst on Brazil duty.

The attacking midfielder was an unused substitute in Brazil's 3-1 win over Japan in Lyon on Friday, however their medics insist that he is winning his race to be fit for the England match.

Why take the risk?

As mentioned above, he hasn't played for the Reds since the heavy loss to Spurs at Wembley in October, but there is an understandable reason why he wants to feature against England.

With the World Cup on the horizon, the competition for places in Tite's Brazil squad is as fierce as it's ever been, and so Coutinho wants to take every opportunity possible to assure himself of a trip to Russia next summer.

The Liverpool man is up against the likes of Renato Augusto, Paulinho, Willian, Taison and Douglas Costa for a starting place, not to mention Gabriel Jesus and, of course, Neymar.
