If you’d told Jamie Carragher a few years back that he’d be playing alongside the likes of Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in a friendly for the ‘Class of 92’ one day, he would’ve called you crazy - and probably much worse. But that’s exactly what happened on Sunday, with the Liverpool legend agreeing to line up alongside a host of ex-United stars for a friendly match at Salford City’s Peninsula Stadium.Carragher, a close friend of Neville’s following their work together on Sky Sports over recent years, certainly played his part in the entertaining 4-4 draw. However, the 39-year-old’s contribution would not have impressed the watching Sir Alex Ferguson, who was in the stands alongside United icon Denis Law.The Class of 92 took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Danny Webber and Dwight Yorke, but Carragher allowed Salford to reduce the deficit with some comical defending. The ball was chipped into the box and all Carragher needed to do was clear the danger. But instead of booting the ball into Row Z - like he would have done during his playing days - the retired centre-back dallied, made a woeful attempted back-pass to goalkeeper Shay Given, who collided with his teammate and the ball subsequently found its way into the back of the net.

Dear oh dear, Carra. What was that?!

The Class of 92 went on to concede three more goals before full-time and the game eventually finished all square.

Carragher tweets after being blamed for the goal

After the match, Carragher saw that Salford had blamed him for Anthony Dudley’s goal on Twitter.

He responded with a cheeky tweet…

“Done everything right but again let down by a goalkeeper!” he posted.

If you say so, Jamie.

Gary Neville hasn't mocked Carragher - yet...

Surprisingly, Neville hasn’t taken the opportunity to mock his Sky Sports colleague on Twitter.

The former United captain did, however, tweet: “Good day @peninsula_uk stadium opening game !! Conceding 4 felt like a clean sheet!”

And there were a couple of digs at Carragher in the replies…
