David Goffin was the name on every tennis fans' lips yesterday after he defeated Rafael Nadal at the ATP World Tour Finals.
After overcoming the world number one in three sets, Goffin wouldn't have been surprised to hear that the Spaniard then immediately decided to retire from the tournament due to his niggling knee injury.
Despite Nadal not being 100% fit, it was still a remarkable win for Goffin, and one moment in the match in particular highlighted just how good he can be at times.
In the first set, the 26-year-old Belgian was finding difficulty finishing off the 31-year-old Nadal, who was a major doubt for this tournament due to his persistent knee faults.
Although, he played on and was on the receiving end of a career defining performance from Goffin, summarised perfectly by his sumptuous hit down the line that curled back into play. The likes of which probably wouldn't even be seen in video games.
The most fascinating part about this video is the superb reaction of Rafa, who produces the same facial expression most will have had watching at home, one of pure disbelief at how Goffin has managed to place it so flawlessly in the top corner of the court.
Nadal fought valiantly back into this contest, winning the second set and taking Goffin to the very edge in the third set.
Watch the remarkable shot and Nadal's reaction below.
However, it became visible to all that his knee problems were beginning to hamper his success again, with the top ranked player limping his way around the court in the final stages.
On the other hand, nothing should be taken away from this imperious display from the No.7 ranked seed, who, as well as phenomenal technical ability, showed to the world he is capable of hanging with the very best mentally, not showing signs of weakness and fatigue in the latter stages against a wounded Spaniard.
