Gordon Strachan has called on his strikers to hit the goal trail as his Middlesbrough side prepare for Saturday's trip to Nottingham Forest.

Boro fell to a 2-0 defeat at Blackpool in midweek, their first loss in seven games, and Strachan believes if they can take their chances his side can be more than a match for Billy Davies' men.

"It's going to be a hard game but we're fine, we're quietly confident of giving them a good game," Strachan told the club's official website.

"We deserved to get something out of Tuesday's game but we didn't take our chances and we need to do that.

"We've got some good strikers now but, of course, they need to get on a goals run. Certainly we're better off now as a squad then we were when we last faced Forest, but it's very hard to get any sort or rhythm going because we've got a brand new team.

"Even with six weeks preparation over the summer it's very hard to mould a team, so it's particularly difficult in mid-season."

Strachan added: "We'll be playing against the best team we've played certainly while I've been here. They are well equipped for this league, they can play and they have a fantastic squad."
