Just when Arsene Wenger was starting to prepare for life without Alexis Sanchez, the Chilean gave a timely reminder of how important he is to Arsenal.

His 41st-minute strike capped a stunning display in Saturday's north London derby to help sink Tottenham 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Sanchez also played an important role in his side's opener, winning the free-kick that Mesut Ozil floated into the box for Shkodran Mustafi to head home.

Questions have been asked of the winger's attitude and desire recently as doubt continues to loom over his future at Arsenal.

A January move to Manchester City is being touted, but Sanchez proved he's still very much dedicated to Arsenal with an energetic performance.

Wenger was certainly impressed, saying after the game: "I know them (Sanchez and Ozil) well and I know when these guys go on the pitch they want to win the game.

"They have shown that commitment again today. I never questioned their commitment.

"They can have bad games but the problem is when the player goes to the end of his contract, everyone says: 'Of course'. Their interest is to play anyway."

Arsenal fans have been highly critical of Sanchez lately, but deep down they're desperate for him  to stay and he kept them waiting three hours before posting on Instagram after the Spurs win.

Alongside two pictures of him celebrating his goal, Sanchez dedicated his post to Arsenal fans by saying: "Enjoy Gunners. Happy for our victory and for our team."
