Mohamed Salah has hit the ground running at Liverpool following his £34 million transfer from AS Roma in the summer.
The Egyptian winger, who had an unsuccessful spell at Chelsea before joining Roma on a permanent deal in 2016, has already scored 14 goals in all competitions this season.
Since Luis Suarez left Anfield in 2014, no Liverpool player has scored more than 14 goals in a single season. Salah could hit 20 by the time we reach January at this rate.
The 25-year-old netted his 13th and 14th goals of the campaign in the Reds’ 3-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday.
Salah scored two goals in 10 first-half minutes, effectively securing all three points for the home side in the process.
Salah surpasses Mido's record
Salah’s brace also means that he surpasses Mido - the former Ajax, Tottenham West Ham and Middlesbrough striker - as the Egyptian with the most goals (79) in European football to his name.
Mido praises Salah on Twitter
And Mido took to Twitter earlier today to praise Salah for his achievement.
“Congratulations to @22mosalah on becoming the most Egyptian to Score goals in Europe and still got plenty to come!!” Mido tweeted, “remember when the Liverpool fans made fun of me when I said 3 years ago that Salah is 10 times better thn Sterling..well now they know I was right !!keep going son!!”
Mido's tweet about Salah and Sterling from 2014
Indeed, Mido did say back in 2014 that Salah was a better player than Raheem Sterling, who is currently having an excellent season with Manchester City.
Mido's next tweet will concern Liverpool fans
However, it was Mido’s follow-up tweet that will concern Liverpool supporters.
“@22mosalah got the mentality to keep playing at the top level for many years and this is what we were all Egyptians r missing when we had the chance to play in Europe,” he added. “I believe that Salah will not stay for long at @LFC !!soon he will be gone to @realmadriden #HalaMadrid 💪🏼“
Ooh. You’ve done it now, Mido.
Salah to Real Madrid in the next year or two? You heard it from Mido first.
