Southend have once again refused to comment on a report suggesting their players have not been paid their monthly wages.

Sky Sports News claim the struggling League One side have failed to pay the squad for February. But when contacted by Press Association Sport, a Southend spokesman said the club would not be making any comment on the issue.

The Shrimpers recently dismissed reports that they had failed to pay their players for January as "rumour and speculation."

Southend avoided a winding-up order in London's High Court earlier this month when a case brought by HM Revenue and Customs over an unpaid £200,000 was adjourned for 28 days.

Club chairman Ron Martin claimed the club did not owe money to HMRC because they overpaid when settling an outstanding £2.15million debt in November.

The club's lawyers proceeded to write to HMRC to say they were "astounded" it had decided to proceed with a winding-up petition over a disputed debt.
