Bristol Rovers have completed a deal to keep on-loan Doncaster striker Paul Heffernan at the Memorial Stadium until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old Irishman's initial one-month stay with the Pirates was due to end on Wednesday, but he will now remain with the League One club until May 8.

Rovers manager Paul Trollope told the club's official website: "We're pleased to have agreed that, we were pleased with his performance again on Saturday, pleased that he scored another goal and he's forming a good partnership with Jo (Kuffour)."

Trollope added: "They're getting to understand each other and it's a major boost for us. He's enjoying his football and playing regularly. His sharpness is coming back and hopefully Saturday's performance is a sign of things to come."

Dublin-born frontman Heffernan is out of contract at the end of the season and looks almost certain to have played his last game for Doncaster.

He scored the second goal of his loan spell in Saturday's 4-0 thrashing of Swindon but will not be eligible to play in the play-offs if Paul Trollope's side finish in the top six.
