Doncaster defender Shelton Martis could return to the squad for the home clash with Derby.

Martis has been sidelined since the middle of February with a hamstring injury and his return could be timely with on-loan Elliott Ward due to play his last game before returning to parent club Coventry.

Skipper Brian Stock is close to a return following a back injury, which manager Sean O'Driscoll first feared could rule him out for six weeks, but Saturday could come too soon for the Wales international.

Fellow midfielder Martin Woods appeared for the last seven minutes in the midweek draw at Preston though and could play a bigger role against Derby after three months out with a groin injury.

Adam Lockwood (foot) and Jason Shackell (groin) are still unavailable but the former is also close to a return to first-team action.

Derby moved to sign goalkeeper David Martin on a month-long loan from Liverpool in time for the trip.

Captain Robbie Savage played in goal for 50 minutes at Reading on Wednesday night after first-choice keeper Stephen Bywater was forced off with a back injury and his replacement Saul Deeney was sent off.

Martin could be given the nod to start but manager Nigel Clough is hopeful Bywater could be included in the squad. If Bywater is not fit, academy keeper James Severn could be on the bench.

"We are hoping Stephen will be fit enough at least to go on the bench," said Clough. "We have been managing his back problem. He hasn't trained much in the last week or two, he has just been playing the games and we are hoping he will be able to do that for the rest of the season."

Chris Porter missed the game at the Madejski Stadium with a virus and the striker will continue to be monitored.
