Manchester United fans are still reeling this morning after their team were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Championship side Bristol City on Wednesday night.Jose Mourinho’s side were expected to breeze their way into the semi-finals - despite the fact they were playing away from home - but the hosts upset the odds with a superb team performance.Joe Bryan put the Robins 1-0 up in the 51st minute with a wonderful finish before Zlatan Ibrahimovic puled a goal back shortly afterwards with a free-kick.However, rather than going on to win the match, United suffered an embarrassing defeat after Korey Smith netted the winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time."My thoughts? My thoughts are that they were lucky. But they fought a lot to be lucky," Mourinho was quoted as saying after the match by the Mirror. "They won the game in a moment where we had no possibilities to react."They win the game in the moment where everybody was waiting for our goal - so I have to say they were a bit lucky."Also in the first-half, we hit the post twice before they scored."They fought like this was the game of their lives, which it probably was and it is nice. I think it is a beautiful day for football because a team from a lower division won and got into the semi-final."It is a big day for them and their supporters so I congratulate them."I don't want the fact I say they were a bit lucky to be the main thing. The main thing is that they won and fought hard for that."

Lucas's tweet has gone viral

The most popular tweet of the night came from the former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, who couldn’t resist taking a cheeky dig at the Red Devils.

Here’s what he tweeted…

Within an hour of being posted, Lucas’s tweet had already racked up a whopping 20,000 retweets and 35,000 ‘likes’.

Liverpool fans react to Lucas's tweet

United fans, needless to say, did not find the tweet amusing. Liverpool supporters, on the other hand, couldn’t get enough of it…

Didi Hamann wasn't having it

However, Didi Hamann brought Liverpool fans back down to earth when he tweeted: “We'd be better off concentrating on ourselves. We've been unlucky for 11 years.”

It’s a fair point.

John Arne Riise also joined in the fun

However, Lucas wasn’t the only ex-Red revelling in United’s shock Carabao Cup defeat.

John Arne Riise also delighted the Anfield faithful when he tweeted: “Bristol City 😅🔝👏🏻Love that“

The intense rivalry between Liverpool and United is alive and well, it seems.
