As you'd expect, Coutinho remains a huge transfer priority for La Liga leaders Barcelona, but Liverpool fans will love the latest news regarding a potential move for their star man.

The latest on Coutinho to Barca

During the summer, Liverpool continually insisted that they simply weren't prepared to sell Coutinho, despite receiving multiple bids from Barca in excess of £100 million.

Ahead of the January window, Sky Sports' Guillem Balague has revealed that the Anfield club will stand firm once again and claimed that those close to Coutinho think a deal won't happen.

The La Liga expert, who was in Sky Sports' studio for their coverage of El Clasico, said, via 101greatgoals: "Liverpool don't want to sell (Philippe) Coutinho.

“That’s where they stand right now, so Barcelona are not optimistic about the possibility of Coutinho going there.

"Obviously, they will try and they want to make an offer in January, but even Coutinho’s entourage are thinking it probably won’t happen."

The Barcelona-born journalist continued: "Liverpool are saying the same as what they said in the summer: ‘We are not interested in selling’."

The fact that Barcelona are seemingly aware that a January pursuit of Coutinho could prove extremely difficult means they may not even come in with an offer at all.

Huge boost for Liverpool

This comes as a huge boost for Liverpool, not only because they don't want to lose a star player halfway through the season, but also because of how outstanding Coutinho has been.

He's put the summer saga behind him, and whether he plays off the left or in central midfield, Jurgen Klopp's men will need his top-class quality in the second half of the campaign.
