The Philadelphia 76ers came away with a much-needed win over the New York Knicks in an exciting Christmas Day clash at Madison Square Garden. The Sixers managed to close out the game with some big plays on both ends of the floor down the stretch to secure a 105-98 win in front of a sell-out New York crowd to snap a five-game losing streak. The Knicks fell short in the end but stayed in the game all night thanks to a terrific performance form Enes Kanter who didn't deserve to end up on the losing side. The center put up a monster double-double with a season-high of 31 points and matched a career-high 22 rebounds as the 76ers simply couldn't deal with him inside. He also shot 12-of-21 and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.Kanter punished Philly for not boxing out on numerous occasions as he outmuscled the likes of Amir Johnson and Trevor Booker to snare 11 offensive rebounds and post 12 second-chance points. It may have been a losing effort but the Turkish big man managed to achieve an outstanding and rare feat with his massive stat line.

He became the first player in over five decades to score more than 30 points and grab more than 20 rebounds on Christmas.

The former Oklahoma City Thunder man joined Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, and Bob Lanier as the only players to accomplish this.

The 22 boards was also the most by any active NBA player on Christmas.

Even though he put on a show with a brilliant individual showing, the 25-year-old didn't care too much about his numbers as it didn't translate into a win for the Knicks.

“It’s always a good thing but people are texting my phone and saying congrats and whatever,’’ Kanter said, per the New York Post.

“I’m probably not going to text most of them back because who cares if I get 50 points, 50 rebounds? The state, the whole New York State, they want to see the playoffs. If my numbers are not going to put us in the playoff spot.’’

Kanter was the key piece New York got back from the Carmelo Anthony trade to OKC and he's been a revelation in the Big Apple this year.

The skilled big has really taken to the city and the fans and was disappointed not to reward the MSG crowd with a win on such a special day.

“I see all the fans today just coming out here and to support us, it’s tough to just lose in front of them, especially this amazing crowd out there,’’ Kanter said.

“We’re just going to keep fighting, not backing down, just keep fighting because this team is really special. I feel like we can beat every team with this group.”
